Happy Fall Ya’ll,
I’m excited to start this Fall season with a my first baking skill, making bread. A couple weeks ago I started making bread rolls of a recipe from Shotgun Red, and it’s been a pretty solid recipe. My first attempt at making bread turned out surprisingly awesome. The bread was soft and dense, went great with butter, the second loaf not so much. It’s been so long ago I can’t remember what was wrong with it, but I do remember changing the way I prepare the yeast. I’m preparing it correctly now, who knew. Before, I just threw everything in at once and now I place the yeast in a separate bowl in warm sugar water and let to do its thing.
I also put more salt in the dough, and I salted the top over the buns.
Shotgun Red recipe for his hamburger buns.
Instead of 1 tsp, I put 1 1/2 tsps.
From Shotgun Red Video:
“3 and 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 stick melted butter
1 egg beaten
1 package of active yeast
1 cup warm water”
375-400 degrees for about 30-35min, or until, ya know, it looks like good bread.
i ended up putting the same recipe in the bread maker. It was a 6/10. it was so large in the bread maker that I don’t think it did an even bake. The top was pretty soft, it was also kind of dry, but it’s a great start.
